Fish Out of Water

Musings and observations about life from an East Coast native now living on the Left Coast in the California State Capitol since 2004. This fish has made her home in Madison, WI (7 years); Portland, OR (2 years); Las Vegas, NV (7 months); Middlebury, VT (3 summers); Marne-la-Vallee, a small town east of Paris, France (6 months); Middletown, CT (3 years); and Marshfield, MA, the fish's coastal hometown 40 miles south of Boston (17 years).

Final [Family] Travel for a Few Months

(playing a bit of catch-up on travel reporting before beginning the COVID-19 blog series)

Wednesday, January 22-Saturday, January 25: Chicago (Mr. E)
Mr. E headed off to Chicago while I stayed home to keep the kitties company. I decorated the house for Lunar New Year with all of the awesome items we've picked up over the years, including the new decorations from last year's sabbatical trip to Honolulu. The weekend also included monthly brunch for me on Saturday morning followed by dinner and Sac Ballet with T that evening. Sunday was book club and SSPCA time, and Mr. E was home late Saturday night so could keep his Sunday afternoon massage appointment.

Thursday, February 13-Monday, February 17: Marshfield (Me)
I made my annual President's Day long weekend trip back east to visit Mom in Marshfield. I had travel delays in both directions, including some extra time on the ground in Minneapolis on the way home in order to de-ice the plane! Mom and I spent a relaxing weekend together and enjoyed seeing the movie Little Women on Saturday afternoon along with two lovely swims on Friday and Sunday.

Friday, March 6-Sunday, March 8: Red Wing, MN (Mr. E)
We typically head to Austin at the end of February or beginning of March to celebrate C's birthday. However, this year, we had already purchased non-refundable tickets to two shows at the Harris Center that conflicted with the timing of a birthday trip, so we instead planned for a belated joint celebration in early April. This allowed Mr. E to be able to join his family in Red Wing, MN, for the opening weekend of his parents' joint photography exhibition at Red Wing Arts Center.

While Mr. E was away, I attended the CalSAE Capital Region Level-Up lunch on Friday and met S for Happy Hour that evening; dropped off a book donation at the Alliance Française on Saturday morning, went to see Chicago with E that afternoon, and finished off the evening with E and C at Aji Dori; and spent Sunday doing chores and errands after losing an hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings Time (grr).

NOTE: Our next trip was supposed to be to Honolulu for my birthday from March 19-23, but that all got cancelled due to COVID-19.
