Christmas in Awesome Austin

Friday, December 22: SMF > IAH > AUS
Mr. E and I both worked from home in the morning before heading to the airport for our early afternoon flight. We connected through Houston and arrived in Austin just before 9pm. Mom and B were still up when we got to the house, so we chatted a bit with some snacks and wine before going to bed.

Saturday, December 23: Playing in the Park + Holiday Duck Tour
J went to yoga in the morning, and I did a Zumba workout in the studio/office. Mom and I went off to Starbucks for breakfast, and I brought food and coffee back to Mr. E as well. The sun was shining brightly, so we all bundled up and headed down to the park near the neighborhood pool. J and I went for a walk with the dogs on the path through the wooded area while C, B, E, and Mom stayed in the park area. C went on the swing and played with his remote-control car. Once J and I got back to the group, J, B, Mr. E, and C pulled out the giant Frisbee while Mom watched from her chair and I wrangled the two dogs. Mr. E and I needed to do a few errands, so we went off on our own, had lunch at Whole Foods, and eventually got ready to head downtown for our holiday Duck Tour. The route took us through parts of central downtown Austin, including past the Capitol Building, and we sang Christmas carols for most of the ride. We arrived back at the meet-up spot just in time to watch the light show near the lake. So fun!

Sunday, December 24: Holiday Crafts + Peafowl + Church + Christmas Dinner
J went to morning yoga again, and I did Zumba in C's room since we were able to use that entire area as our own little suite. C, J, and Mom worked on some holiday crafts in the morning, and then the four of us went to see the peafowl (peacocks & peahens) and have lunch at Mayfield Park while B and Mr. E went to watch the new Star Wars movie. We regrouped back at the house later in the afternoon. J, B, C, Mom, and B's mother went to the 5pm church service while Mr. E and I stayed home to make holiday dinner for the family -- standing rib roast, baked salmon, mashed cauliflower, grilled asparagus, and pumpkin pie for dessert, along with holiday cookies and some other sweet treats. Yum! C got one present from Santa's helpers (aka Tia J & Tio Mr. E) to open on Christmas Eve, and he loved his new Paw Patrol helicopter. He and J put out cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer before reading The Night Before Christmas and heading to bed.

Monday, December 25: Christmas Day
C was incredibly patient waiting for all of the adults to get up and come downstairs for breakfast before the bulk of the presents could be opened. He did have a lego vehicle set to keep him occupied, and he worked on it with Mom and then finished it with B before we all transitioned to the living room for the rest of the morning. B's mother came over to join us, and we finished up the presents before having a tapas-style lunch. C played with some of his new toys for a bit, and we settled in to watch Moana in the afternoon after B's mother headed home. I also did some laundry so that we could have all clean clothes to take with us for our upcoming Panama trip, although we did put some of our cold-weather stuff along with our gifts into a small box for J to ship to Sacto for us. In the evening, we adults played some 80s & 90s trivia and had leftovers for dinner. Mr. E and I packed up to be ready for our early early morning the next day and said farewell to everyone before going to bed.

We'll be back for C's birthday in just a couple of months!
