Introducing Louis XIV
Mr. E encouraged me to begin the interview process for a new member of the household sooner rather than later, knowing that it can take time to find the right companion. And I got lucky on the very first recruiting visit to the City of Sacramento Front Street Animal Shelter! As I was reviewing the felines available for adoption, a little orange boy cat in a cluster of three kittens perked up, came over to the open kennel door, crawled up my arm, and starting purring. DONE! Yep, he definitely picked me, and he's adorable and loving and frisky and a total typical kitten (e.g. play hard, sleep hard).
As we were trying to think of names for him, Mr. E came up with Louis because the little boy is a Leo just like Mr. E (e.g. sun sign). I liked that option but decided he needed to be a bit more regal, so I added XIV after the French sun king to strengthen that seasonal connection. And when you say that Roman numeral in French, it sounds like "cat"-oars. Get it??!! Since he was born in mid-August, we're designating 8/14/22 as his birthday to go along with his name. Finally, his markings are quite distinctive and include circles on his sides that sort of look like crowns, so it all just fits together perfectly.
Welcome to the JEMS household, Louis XIV!
