Shade Worshippers
Yep, it's that time of year again. On my way home from the club last night, I noticed a gentleman standing on the opposite corner of the intersection at 9th & P Streets. At first, I thought it odd that he was positioned about 3 feet from the edge of the sidewalk and the beginning of the crosswalk, but then I realized: he was sticking to the shady area rather than waiting in the sun. And as soon as the light turned, he stepped out to cross the street.
Really, I should have known, since I tend to do the exact same thing. At this time of year in Sacto, when the temps start to hit the triple digits, it's all about the shade.
Follow the shade.
Adore the shade.
Covet the shade.
Worship the shade.
And thank goodness for the fabulous tree canopy in downtown & midtown. Until the sun and heat start scorching the earth, it's easy to forget what an asset the greenery is to our city and how critical it is to simple survival to be able to wander from shade to shade during the summer months.
