And still Sydney...

Wednesday 1/2: Bridge Job, Nick Cave, White Rabbit, Seafood Dinner???
Mr. E got up earlier than usual so that we could head out for our Bridge jog before it got too hot. Still warm and humid even at 7am, but worth the effort to trot across the Bridge and back on our final morning in Sydney.

Once we cooled down and had breakfast, we headed off towards the Redfern area to find Carriageworks, where Nick Cave's latest installation, Until, is currently on view. Nick is a colleague of Mr. E's mom at the School of the Art Institute, so it was great to be able to see his new monumental work while we were abroad. Both of us were moved by his creative vision, the scope of the installation spread across two huge areas of the warehouse-like venue, and his use of unusual materials to express his ideas and themes.

Our art tour continued with White Rabbit Gallery in the Chippendale area, right by the new Central Park development that also includes our favorite vertical garden building. The Gallery is full of Chinese contemporary art that comes from the collection of a single individual and rotates on a regular basis. We were quite intrigued by a number of the artists and agreed it would be worth a return visit since we'd see something different the next time around.

We strolled through the park at the center of the Central Park development and discovered lots of funky shops and eateries tucked away in the lanes. Back to our hotel to eat our takeaway lunch (sushi for me, pizza from Assembly for Mr. E).

Dinner was intended to be at Blue Fish Seafood, which was featured on the Travel Network's Delicious Destinations for its famous seafood tower entree. Mr. E had even made reservations, but we were sorely disappointed by the almost-rude and rather inept service not to mention the resistance to accommodating any of my dietary restrictions. Don't go there!!!

So we finished our drinks and moved on to nearby Mediterranea, where the experience was exactly the opposite. All of the staff were very friendly, although we still didn't have many good non-onion and non-garlic seafood options due to marinade issues. We still enjoyed our dozen oysters and drinks, and then we headed back to Assembly Bar, where we shared some calamari and Mr. E's entree of crispy-skin barramundi. Yum! We finished up the evening with a final load of laundry and some more packing to prepare for our early departure tomorrow morning.
