Farewell to Welly

Sunday 1/6: WLG > CHC
Breakfast from Best Ugly Bagels again before heading to the airport for our 12:35pm Air New Zealand flight to Christchurch. We arrived early, checked our bags, and settled into the regional lounge for some breakfast nibbles. No security at all for our regional flight!!! Quick boarding and take-off in the twin prop plane and minimal turbulence despite the high winds. A quick hour trip to arrive in Christchurch. We collected our bags and then found a Super Shuttle (not the same blue van as in the US) for a shared ride to the city center and our lodging at the Rendezvous Hotel on Gloucester Street, very close to Cathedral Square.

We settled into our room quickly and then set off to find a snack for lunch. Sorbetto at Rollickin' Gelato in nearby New Regent Street for me. Mr. E also finally found a hat at a souvenir shop. Then off to Cashel Square for a smoothie for Mr. E, although we ended up at the wrong spot... Oops. But we did find some more gifts!

Then pack to the hotel to re-pack and organize. Mr. E went out for a run around Hagley Park while I updated our finances and worked on finishing my book so I could leave it at the hotel. Mr. E found a dinner spot at Cafe Stir during his cool-down, so we headed there for seafood saffron and a lamb burger. A post-dinner drink at the bar next door, and then back to the hotel for me while Mr. E stayed out a bit longer for another cocktail. Early morning tomorrow to begin our 8-day tour!
