Day 129: More Restaurant Closings
When I was writing my post yesterday, I referred to the former Monsoon Restaurant, which used to occupy the corner spot at 16th & K Streets:
This corner location has been home to several other restaurants, including Bistro 33, which Mr. E and I frequented occasionally. For some reason, eating spots just don't seem to find success in this venue, despite the lovely space and airy interior:
Perhaps the rent is too high??? Hard to know why certain locales experience chronic turnover.
Another example, Bulls, is included in the same online article that describes the unexpected Monsoon closing. I certainly never had any desire to try Bulls, based on posters for events such as bikini bull riding (not really my scene):
However, it's just not a good sign to see so many local restaurants struggling in the downtown and midtown area. We still have plenty of options for eating out, and I don't feel that we lack for different types of cuisines or price points, but such high turnover rates in specific spots are rather troubling.
