San Francisco Museum Day

Mr. E and I spent most of Saturday at the de Young Museum with friends E & C. Our first appointment was at 1pm to view the Frida Kahlo exhibit, which closed yesterday. The nasty traffic on I80 caused us to be tardy even though we left Sac at 11am. Grr! Thanks to C's driving and E's navigation, we managed to arrive at the museum just 10 minutes late for our entry time. Luckily, we were still able to access the exhibit, which we had been wanting to see since last fall. The COVID closures and openings made an earlier visit very challenging to schedule, and I'm so glad we were able to take advantage of the exhibition extension!

We had just enough time to have some drinks and food at the cafe before it closed at 2:30pm, and we then lingered and chatted until our next appointment at 3pm to see the Calder-Picasso exhibit. I really enjoy Calder's sculptural works, and seeing so many of them gathered in one place was particularly striking. (See photos below of some of my favorites, although these static two-dimensional photos really don't capture the feel or impact of seeing these works in person)

I'm not much of a Picasso fan, but I did appreciate the series showing how he progressed through various iterations of a bull to arrive at the final very simplified figure. (See final image below)

So great to have a day full of art!!
